Safety Turtle® Background Information

The Safety Turtle® alarm system consists of one Base Station and one or more Turtle wristbands, which lock securely on the wrist of young children. In the event that a child falls into the water, the Turtle wristband and sensor instantly detects immersion in water and radios the Base Station to sound a loud alarm (110 decibels). Unlike other alarms, Safety Turtle provides continuous protection to the wearer near any water hazard.

Safety Turtle has been carefully designed for use with children. The Turtle, which is available in six bright colors, is permanently sealed and ruggedly built to withstand child’s play. Any number of Turtles (of the same color) can be used with one Base Station. Pets can also be protected with the Safety Turtle pet collar and Turtle sensor.

Unlike surface and subsurface pool alarms, Safety Turtle provides continuous protection to the wearer. This distinction is vital because toddler accidents often occur when a pool area is momentarily left unsecured or when adults are in attendance. Safety Turtle also works in hot tubs and in lakes, ponds and rivers – all major toddler hazards. The Safety Turtle alarm system is equally suitable for use on boats alerting others of “man overboard.”

To facilitate use outdoors and in absence of AC power, the Base Station can run from AC or 12 VDC, or from a rechargeable battery (AC or DC charging source) called "Turtle Power" which may optionally be purchased along with a waterproof carrying and housing bag for the Base Station and battery. The Base Station can also be run (and Turtle Power charged in series if desired) from a 12 VDC cigarette lighter receptacle using an accessory cable.

The US Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC) says: "Supervision can and does fail". This reflects a changing attitude towards toddler drowning and immersion injuries in backyard pools. Accidents occur when there is: a lapse in direct supervision, a breach of physical security and a child who wants to enter the water

When the system is activated, the alarm system will sound the instant the Safety Turtle sensor is submerged in water. The Safety Turtle® alarm system requires one Base Station. The Base Station serves as the hub of the alarm system and can support any number of child wristbands and/or pet collars. When the system is activated to monitor a child and/or pets, the Base Station alarm will sound the instant the Safety Turtle sensor is submerged in water. The range of the alarm is 100 ft. from the Base Station to the Turtle wristband. The alarm sounds at 110 decibels -- louder than most smoke alarms which typically sound at 95 decibels. The system will support multiple child wristbands and pet collars. Protect the entire family – children and pets included.
